--HELP FILE-- Smith & Anderson WordPress Theme Created: 19/08/2009 Updated: 09/09/2009 By: Afflict --TABLE OF CONTENTS-- A) Template Setup & Structure B) CSS Files C) Javascript D) PSD Files E) Special Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATED 11/11/09 -------------------------------- - Fixed the slider bug with the images not displaying fully. - This is probably my last update for the theme. - Custom work to the theme can be requested at my hourly rate from here on out, please contact afflict85@gmail.com if you need any customization. - I will support the theme still if any bugs do appear. - Thank you for supporting my theme and be sure to sign up to my twitter feed to get the latest updates to themes as they happen. (http://www.twitter.com/francoisamarais) UPDATED 09/09/09 -------------------------------- - Added Feature slide linking. (can make slides link to URL) Caters for link or no link. - Display feature slider yes or no. - Made the theme "smarter" : Checks to see if there is a welcome message image specified if there is it displays if not it wont. - To avoid the "lava" bug of "not working" made it that the section doesnt load.. so you must have feature 1 image url completed in order for the section to show. Will also auto turn off the image section, if the field is not completed. - The contact form on the contact page will not show unless the contact email has been completed, as it will have no where to send the mail. -------------------------------- ** PLEASE NOTE ** Complete all the instructions before "Checking if the theme works" A) Template Setup & Structure The standard wordpress structure applies to the theme, with a couple of custom made templates for the gallery (gallery_template.php), blog (blogpage.php), portfolio(portfolio_template.php) and contact (contact_template.php) To start off setting up the theme I would suggest creating the following pages & categories: Create pages (remember to choose the correct template for the page in the template drop down on the right of the page creation page) gallery portfolio blog contact **If you do check the theme now you will notice the menu items, you WILL NOT see the "gold buttons" yet.** /*Maak dit sodat die feature panel by default af is!?*/ Create Categories (take note of the id's as we will use them when setting up the options) gallery portfolio blog **NOTE** On a clean install this will run in order : gallery will be category 3 portfolio will be 4 blog will be 5 You will now need to set it up via the admin panel within wordpress, the theme has its own options tab located in the "Appearance" tab in the admin sidebar called, Smith and Anderson Options. /* Order die ook in die bbonste format g p b dis nou p g b*/ Once you click on the tab you will see many option blocks you will need to complete. -Homepage Featured Images : With up to 5 images (you can use less if you want) the images specified in this section are for the index page feature slider. You will need to insert full URL paths eg: http://www.yourwebsite.com/images/banner1.jpg **NOTE** The Banners.psd in the PSD folder that is in the SAA Download folder can be used to easily make slides as seen in the demo. -Homepage Welcome : This is the content that will be next to the block images on the index page. You can use html code to format the text if you want. -Block One,Two,Three,Four : These are the icon blocks you see on the index, eg: Services, Portfolio etc. You can specify the Image, Title, Url, Tagline & Message. -Theme Setup : Here you will need to specify the category ids for the specific categories so the theme can identify them and structure them accordingly. (Hovering over the category in the categories tab will enable you to see un the bottom of the browser the cat_ID eg:categories.php?action=edit&cat_ID=5 this would be category 5. alternatively you can right click the name and view link properties to see it) -SEO - Google Analytics : Simply paste the java code that google gives you in here and the theme does the rest! -General : Here you enter the email address you want the ajax contact form to use. You have now completly set up your theme! Congradulations! However you now need to know how to use the posts! -Creating the specific posts! When creating a post for a specific category you will need to select it from the categories list eg:Blog this can also have sub categories like news, events etc. You will need to specify custom field data to wordpress so that it can correctly display and format the post. The custom fields are as follow: Gallery Posts Custom Fields image_large : Full size image image_th : Thumb nail image (180x120) Portfolio Posts Custom Fields Note : The post title will be the title on the image both hover and large view. project_img : URL to the image for the post (width:600px) project_link : URL to the website or maybe blog page. Blog Posts Custom Fields post_icon : URL to custom icon you want the post to have, perfect to show articles, tutorials, events etc. NOTE: if you do not specify an icon the theme will assign the na.png image from the images folder. So you can change this image to anything you like. -Sidebar The sidebar is widget enabled, however it uses its own recent posts, as I had to make the theme exclude gallery & portfolio. wordpress is limited to a single post file and hence I had to formulate the work around, else the posts would look like blog posts, and not like portfolio posts or gallery posts. Widgets : Add the search bar. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B) CSS I'm using 2 CSS files in this theme. The first one (reset.css) is a generic reset file. Many browsers interpret the default behavior of html elements differently. By using a general reset CSS file, we can work round this. The second file (style.css) contains all of the specific stylings for pages. - INDEX PAGE MAIN CONTENT - PAGE CONTENT - PORTFOLIO and BLOG PAGE - POSTS - GALLERY - CONTACT PAGE If you would like to edit a specific section of the site, simply find the appropriate label in the CSS file, and then scroll down until you find the appropriate style that needs to be edited. All sections are clearly labelled in the css and easy to find and minipulate. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C) Javascript : jQuery is a Javascript library that greatly reduces the amount of code that you must write. This theme imports many Javascript files: jQuery : The Javascript Library used to make the other fiels work. DD_belatedPNG.js : Used to make images transparent for Internet Explorer 6 jcarousellite.js : The image rotator for the feature section jquery.easing.min.js : Used for lavalamp menu and carousel. jquery.lavalamp.min.js : Used for the top navigation menu. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- D) PSD Files I Have included 6 psd files that I used to create this theme: * feature_pagetop.psd : Used to make the page top graphic and feature box. * lava.psd : Used for the navigation * logo.psd : For The logo * morinfo-item.psd : Used for the arrows on the "read more" of the posts. * page-end.psd : To create the ending of the page. * quote.psd : used for the pull qoutes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- E) Special Thanks I Would like to thank the many people that made this theme possible. * JQuery plugin : DD Belated PNG Fix ( www.dillerdesign.com/experiment/DD_belatedPNG/ ) * JQuery plugin : jCarousel Lite ( http://www.gmarwaha.com/jquery/jcarousellite/ ) * JQuery plugin : Lava Lamp ( http://www.gmarwaha.com/blog/2007/08/23/lavalamp-for-jquery-lovers/ ) * Icons : Blogging Icons Set by BlogPerfume ( www.blogperfume.com ) * CSS : Pull Qoute ( http://www.sitepoint.com/test/pullquote.htm ) * My good friend David Leonard ( www.themeforest.net/user/d4v1d/?ref=Afflict ) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once again, thank you so much for purchasing this theme.
